Why Law Firms Choose Pillar & Scroll for Website Care

Your website is often the first place prospects, referrers, and potential hires research your firm. Website Care ensures it’s always available, secure, and performing at its best.

Security You Can Trust

Your website is protected by WP Engine’s enterprise-grade security standards. They maintain ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification and SOC 2 compliance for Security and Availability Trust Services Categories. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit, with SSL certificates automatically installed on all domains.

Proactive Monitoring, Rapid Response

We monitor your website 24/7 for uptime and performance issues. When something goes wrong, our incident response team is alerted immediately - so problems are resolved before they impact your firm's reputation.

Technical Complexity, Handled

WordPress updates, plugin patches, security vulnerabilities - we handle all of it. You focus on your practice while we ensure your website remains secure, compatible, and running smoothly.

Everything Your Website Needs to Stay Online and Secure

Comprehensive technical care that protects your investment and keeps your digital presence running smoothly.

Premium WordPress Hosting

Your website is hosted on WP Engine, a leading managed WordPress platform trusted by enterprises worldwide. This includes dedicated server resources, global CDN for fast page loads, and infrastructure that scales with your needs.

24/7 Monitoring & Rapid Response

We monitor your website around the clock for uptime and performance issues. Our systems also provide preventative monitoring for common incident causes - including hacking attempts, DDoS attacks, malware infections, and server failures. When issues are detected, alerts are sent immediately to our incident response team, which includes our leadership and senior developers.

Proactive Security Updates & Patches

We keep your website secure and compatible with regular, automated malware and vulnerability checks. WordPress core and plugin updates are applied monthly, with urgent patches handled immediately - including outside business hours when necessary. We also conduct monthly manual reviews of key website pages to ensure updates haven't impacted functionality or appearance.

Premium Plugin Licenses Included

Your Website Care plan includes agency licenses for all the premium plugin subscriptions we use to build and maintain your website - valued at approximately $1,000 per year. These costs are covered as part of an active Website Care plan.

Enterprise-Grade Security Standards

WP Engine’s hosting infrastructure adheres to the latest international security standards, including ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification and SOC 2 compliance. All data is encrypted both at rest and in transit, with SSL certificates automatically installed on all domains. Detailed compliance documentation is available on request.

Daily Backups in Two Locations

Your website is backed up automatically to two separate cloud locations, with approximately 30 backup instances retained at any time. If something goes wrong - whether from a failed update, accidental deletion, or security incident - we can restore your site quickly from a recent backup. On-demand backups are also available on request.

Staging Environment for Safe Updates

We create and maintain a staging environment for your website - a private copy where updates, fixes, and changes can be tested before going live. This means we can verify that WordPress updates, plugin patches, or new functionality won't cause issues on your production site. When you need larger changes made, we test everything in staging first so your live website is never at risk.

3-Year Bug Fix Guarantee

All bugs caused by build and browser compatibility issues are resolved at no additional cost for at least 3 years from launch. This guarantee requires an active Website Care plan. Even if you accidentally cause an issue, let us know - in most cases, there's a quick fix that's covered under your plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Website Care handles all technical maintenance - enterprise-grade hosting, security updates, backups, monitoring, and bug fixes. It keeps your website secure, fast, and running smoothly without requiring any attention from your team.

Website Desk (part of our Marketing Desk service) handles content management - updating text and images, adding new lawyer profiles and pages, publishing news and resources, and conducting regular content reviews.

Think of Website Care as the technical foundation, and Website Desk as your ongoing content partner. Most firms choose Website Care as essential, while Website Desk is optional depending on whether you want to manage content updates yourself.

Website Care covers technical maintenance, security, and bug fixes - not content updates or new functionality. If you need content changes (like updating lawyer profiles or adding news articles), you can either make these yourself through WordPress, or use our Website Desk service.

If you need new functionality or design changes, we'll provide a quote for that work separately.

If you prefer to self-host and self-manage your website, we'll provide you with a ZIP file of your website and database. You'll need to arrange your own hosting, handle all technical maintenance and security updates, and we strongly recommend that you purchase your own licenses for the premium plugins we use.

While ongoing maintenance isn't mandatory, websites without regular updates, security patches, and monitoring eventually develop performance issues, security vulnerabilities, or compatibility problems. You'll also lose access to our 3-year bug fix guarantee.

The Admin tier gives your team full access to WordPress and WP Engine, allowing you to make changes to the code base, add plugins, and modify technical settings.

While you own your website and can request this level of access, these changes can significantly impact the time required to complete our maintenance, and may cause security or performance issues that require more urgent or complex patches. Fixes that require substantial corrections may attract additional fees.

For most law firms, full admin access isn't necessary - the standard Website Care plan allows you to add, edit, and delete content without the risks that come with deeper technical access. If you need new functionality, you can always request it and we'll discuss the best approach.

With an active Website Care plan, we fix it at no additional charge - or restore from one of our recent backups if needed. We monitor your site 24/7 for uptime and performance issues. Even if you accidentally caused the problem, just let us know - in most cases there's a quick fix that's covered under your plan.

Without Website Care, contact us for assistance. We'll provide a quote to diagnose the problem and, if appropriate, a second quote for the repair work. As you would expect, reactive fixes typically cost more than proactive maintenance and monitoring.

It's a cliché, but the internet is always changing - this includes WordPress, plugins, hosting platforms, and browsers. These changes can impact how your site displays, performs, and functions, causing bugs through no fault of your firm or Pillar & Scroll.

Fixing these issues can be time-consuming and expensive. With an active Website Care plan, all bugs caused by build and browser compatibility issues are resolved at no additional cost for at least 3 years from launch. Even if you accidentally cause an issue, let us know - in most cases, there's a quick fix that's covered under your plan.

We respond to all support requests within one business day, though most requests receive a same-day response during business hours. For critical issues affecting site functionality or uptime, we prioritise these immediately.

Yes, absolutely. You own all rights to your website content, design, and structure. Website Care is simply a service agreement for hosting and maintenance - it doesn't affect your ownership in any way. If you choose to leave, we'll provide everything you need to move your website elsewhere.

Your website is hosted on WP Engine's infrastructure, which uses data centres in multiple global locations. By default, we select the server location closest to your head office to ensure fast load times for your visitors.

WP Engine offers hosting in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Singapore, mainland Europe, and the Middle East. Contact us for a full list of locations if you have specific data residency requirements or would like to request an alternative location.

Contact us for a list of the premium plugins we use to build and maintain your website.

Website developers use third-party plugins to extend the functionality of your website. These plugins make it easier to add, edit, and remove content, and provide features like security, forms, search, and filtering.

We only use premium, tested plugins. It is significantly more cost-effective for both Pillar & Scroll and our clients to use these than to custom-build everything for each site. The plugins we use across all client websites incur monthly or annual fees - we absorb these costs into your Website Care plan, so there's nothing extra to pay.

In some cases, clients request specific plugins for their site. If these incur additional licensing fees, you'll need to organise your own license and we can help you integrate it.

This is assessed on a case-by-case basis. In some instances, we can provide a custom quote for this type of work. Support is limited to WordPress websites and they must be migrated to WP Engine if they're not hosted there already.

Yes, monthly payment options are available. Use the toggle on our pricing table to see monthly rates.

Clients who complete their website project on schedule receive four months of complimentary Website Care as a thank you for keeping things on track.

Your client manager will provide you with a coupon code when your project is complete.

If you choose to pay monthly, the code applies a 33% discount to your first year of payments - equating to four months free. If you choose to pay annually, the code will apply the equivalent discount to your first year.

We recommend starting Website Care immediately after launch. It doesn't start automatically - however, we provide a 14-day post-launch support period to ensure a smooth handover.

You can downgrade to Self-Managed at any time. Upgrading to a higher tier is assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on the status of the site and what's been updated since launch. Contact us to discuss this further.

Your website is always yours once full payment for the website project has been made. If you choose not to renew your Website Care plan, you'll need to organise your own hosting and plugin licenses.

Yes, you can cancel your Website Care plan with 30 days notice. There are no cancellation fees. If the handover requires more than 2 hours to transfer files, documentation, and access to your team (which is uncommon), we reserve the right to quote for that process.
